DAILY LIFE
Each week the group spends three to four days at our base camp in Sky Valley and three to four days at off-campus wilderness adventure excursions.
The location of our base camp not only means we have four distinct seasons and plenty of mild weather, it also gives our students access to a multitude of adventure programming. The experiences students will have in the field help to build authentic connections with peers and staff, boost self confidence, develop skills, and uncover inner strengths.
"I fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains. Waking up and seeing the sun rise over the trees behind the lake helped me start every day off right."
Base Camp
The students begin their day with personal hygiene and housekeeping before heading to breakfast. They fill the rest of their day with a variety of activities including academic work, yoga, individualized therapy, service learning, culinary classes, gardening, and personal fitness. After dinner, the students participate in an evening process group and have time for personal reflection.
Days at base camp also include adventure components such as day hikes in DuPont Forest, mountain biking, stand up paddleboarding, canoeing, and survival skills classes.
While at base camp students have access to hot showers and laundry facilities, attend individual and group therapy sessions, and enjoy meals and snacks from our Lodge kitchen.

Wilderness Adventure
Students are typically camping during the wilderness adventure part of the week. The day starts with ensuring the group is fully prepared for the adventure that awaits them by waking early, attending to personal hygiene, and gathering around the fire for breakfast while discussing the upcoming day’s adventure.
The day may include one or more of the following activities: hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding, challenge course, and more. Field staff provide group and individualized safety and skill instruction so that all students regardless of fitness and ability can participate in the planned activities.
In the evening, the group will return to their campsite to prepare dinner and participate in a group session to reflect on the day’s adventures.
